Baauer - Stealth Nottingham - 17th November 2015

Music is what runs through Harry Bauer Rodrigues’ veins. The 26 year old trap and bass producer/DJ from Philadelphia has been making music since he was 12 years old, and is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.

Even if the name doesn’t sound familiar to you, there’s no excuse as to why you won’t have heard of his track ‘Harlem Shake’ released on Mad Decent/Jeffrees, also in addition to the mass online hysteria that followed its release- with over 1 million people watching and creating their own dance videos to the hit. The undisputed banger won Dance Song of the Year and EDM Song of the Year at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, and merited critical acclaim from Pitchfork Media, praising ‘it’s hard not to marvel at how awesome those growling-lion samples sound’.

Don’t be fooled though, the man is certainly no one hit wonder; his career has been moving skyward at an astonishing speed- collaborating with Grammy Award winning Just Blaze on their track ‘Higher’, completing remixes for household names Jay Z, Disclosure, AlunaGeorge, Nero, No Doubt, The Prodigy and fellow trap hero Flosstradamus, alongside an intense tour schedule- including his weekly residency at LIGHT nightclub in Las Vegas.

With his roots firmly based in Hip Hop and Dance music, his signing to the LuckyMe record label in August 2012 couldn’t have been better suited, with fellow artists on the label including Hudson Mohawke, Lunice, Jacques Greene, Cashmere Cat and Eclair Fifi.

Something that makes Baauer a particularly interesting producer to take note of, is his ability to extract musical influence from the sounds and styles he soaked up on his travels worldwide. Growing up in several countries due to his father’s work, Baauer lived in Germany from age 4 to 7, London until he was 13, where he then returned to the United States, in Connecticut from 13 to 17. The journey didn’t end there though, with him moving back to London in 2006 and then back to the States, New York to study audio technology at City College. After taking residence in Harlem for two years, he settled in Brooklyn in 2009 which is where he currently resides... for now.

If passion and drive for music production is measured in air miles, then Baauer is undoubtedly at the forefront of that race. He’s travelled to the other end of the globe, from the far off deserts of the United Arab Emirates, to the volcanoes and cities of Japan meeting with the indigenous Ainu people- searching for new influences and sounds to draw inspiration from, ensuring he exceeds the weighty shadow cast by ‘Harlem Shake’. Drawing on exotic and unusual instruments along the way, Baauer is somewhat of a professor of sound, creating musical concoctions and collages that are completely unique. DJ/Producer Nick Hook coined the term ‘a musical Indiana Jones’ for Baauer- and judging from his adventures and succeeding the task of capturing the sounds of the world- we’re not one to disagree. Discovery and experience are an intrinsic part of Baauer’s creative process, and is what makes his music so innovative and special to an audience.

We couldn’t be prouder to have the man himself play here on the 17th of November- and as a thank you for your loyal support over the previous weeks/months/years, we are excited to announce a special one off free party in honour of trap royalty’s return to Room 1, ensuring that all our dedicated fans can witness the sensational DJ/producer in all his glory.
