BODDIKA (Swamp 81/ Nonplus) plays dollop (01.07.11)BODDIKA (Swamp81/Non Plus/Instra:Mental)

It's been less than a year since the world was first introduced to Boddika, but in that time Alex Green has wasted no time in cementing his latest moniker as a cornerstone of the industry. He's a very difficult man to keep up with at the best of time with all his various guises, Al Bleek and as one half of Instra:mental, each having their own distinct, unpigeonholeable, styles. But the guys over at Naked Lunch knew what was up having released Instra:mental material in the past, so when it came to 'Boddika' they were all to happy to get the ball rolling:

When it come's to production, Boddika is a self-confessed slave to machines getting a "…buzz [from] hunting down old equipment". This also goes a long way to explaining why his sound is so reminiscent of early (raw) techno. 808's dominate his recent track Warehouse, which features on pioneering label Hotflush's Back & 4th compilation, and embraces the sound which epitomises today's 'UK Bass' style. You can grab Boddika - Warehouse for free!

Boddika also contributed to Photek's return from hiatus, with a tough Machine Drum remix of 101:

As well as working closely with Naked Lunch and Loefah'sSwamp81, Alex Green runs his (and other half of Instra:mental, Damon Kirkham's) Nonplus imprint. In just over two years their stable has seen releases from the likes of Skream and ASC to Jimmy Edgar, Actress and Kassem Mosse; a variety that encapsulates everything Green's 'Boddika' moniker stands for.

Even with so much on his plate, he still finds time to hit the road like earlier in the year when he smashed Boiler Room - and as the emcee righlty points out, he's "second to nobody":

Keep an eye on where things go from here for Boddika, with the forthcoming Swims collaboration with Joy Orbison on Swamp81 things look set to get even bigger for him. In the meantime get yourselves down to see him play along side the formidable Oneman at dollop this friday. Advance tickets available HERE
