GORGON CITY (aka Foamo & Rack N Ruin)

Two men, one mission: Gorgon City strut with a salubrious yet sordid sound. Polished, powerful and party-minded, it’s already caught the ears of tastemakers as disparate as Diplo, DJ T, Annie Mac and Mistajam. Heavy hip-swinging rhythms meet butt-shaking bass, their sweet, sassy metropolitan mayhem celebrates the very best aspects of the mid-tempo melting pot that makes girls wriggle and boys giggle from San Antonio to San Francisco.

Inspired by the endless groove possibilities when house, garage and bass music go toe-to-toe, Gorgon City’s distinctive sound is a logical development of the duo’s individual work as RackNRuin and Foamo. Both respected and renowned for their electrifying bottom-end workouts, it’s a platform for the North London producers to fuse the deeper, sexier sounds they’ve been excited by for years but not yet had the opportunity to explore.

You can thank their strict diet of jungle, house, grime, hip-hop and garage while growing up. You can thank the many messy sessions they’ve spent DJing on the White Isle. You can thank the fluidity the pair vibe with when together in the studio. Either way, this exciting new project is the sum of their many influences, inspirations and ideas. And right now they’ve only just scratched the surface.

Currently taking up residence on Black Butter Records – the same label who gave us chart-smashing vibe maestros Rudimental – their unique funk fusion hints at club carnage but is executed with sleek, sonic sophistication. They’ve already been given righteous hype by BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Rinse FM, and their current single ‘Real’, featuring Yasmin has gained support from across the board, becoming one of 2013 earliest scorchers.

◆ ROOSEVELT (live) (Greco-Roman)

Under the guise of Roosevelt, Marius Lauber fuses elements of chillwave, Italo disco and pop in effortless fashion. Hailing from Cologne, a town renowned for electronic artists such as collaborator Superpitcher and the hugely influential Kompakt label, Roosevelt manages to meld this rich heritage and craft it into something a little warmer and more palatable. His music draws immediate comparisons to the likes of Washed Out, Caribou and Tycho; a delicious mixture of Balearic haze, rolling basslines and playful indie pop that conjures up images of long faded summers and youthful exuberance. Having circulated amongst blogs for a while, standout track 'Sea' caught the ear of Berlin/London based Greco-Roman, home to early releases from Disclosure, Joe Goddard and Vampire Weekend's Baio, who signed Roosevelt up without hesitation. Check out the wistful video below.

Labelmate Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs hand-picked him to support on his tour last Autumn - stopping by at Rock City, naturally - but his appearance at Stealth Vs Rescued will be his first full performance in Nottingham as part of his debut headlining UK tour. With a new EP on the horizon and a fleshed-out live band in tow, there'll be no better way to see in the Spring than by coming to get a taste of the summer ahead, courtesy of Roosevelt.
