◆ LAPALUX (Brainfeeder)

Having witnessed his stock gradually rise over the past two years with releases on Pictures Music - home to Dauwd, Dark Sky and Koreless amongst others - and a spate of high-profile remix jobs, including Lianne La Havas, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Bonobo, picking up acclaim from XLR8R to Pitchfork, Lapalux appears poised for a major breakthrough in 2013. Last year's seven-track 'When You're Gone' EP propelled Stuart Howard to lofty new heights, in no small part down to the backing of Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder record label. One of the most revered and well-loved labels operating in the world today across any genre, the LA-based stable of artists reveals a rich heritage of woozy, detailed instrumental hip-hop pioneers that Lapalux slots right into: Martyn, Thundercat, Daedelus, Teebs, Lorn and FlyLo himself all are part of the collective. The lush textures and unusual structures that Lapalux dabbles in are underpinned by pop sensibilities that give his music a broad appeal, both in bedrooms and on dancefloors.

Lapalux closed out last year with "Some Other Time", another EP of electronic music seemingly woven from lucid dreams, bringing to the fore a stronger R'n'B influence, and played across the UK and around Europe following the pair of '12 releases. March 26th will bring the release of debut album 'Nostalchic', which - on the face of lead-off single 'Guuurl' - will continue to explore the warm, inviting but tangibly unpredictable sounds Lapalux has made his own.

Suffice to say, being fortunate enough to host any artist the weekend before their debut long-player hits the world is exciting enough as it is, but to have one of the most intriguing young artists in the world of forward-thinking electronica and hip-hop is a real coup.
