LIL SILVA (Night Slugs)

21-year-old Lil Silva is fast becoming one of the most talked about artists on the UK Bass scene. Not only does he possess the musical understanding to work with genres such as American House, Funky and Grime but his ability also allows him to merge and blend styles. Silva’s flair manifests itself in his creative production techniques, showcasing a distinct sound which he looks to continually Always looking to shy away from convention, the young producer’s talents are becoming as renowned for their innovation as they are for the effect they are having on the scene. Prominent cultural magazine has even gone as far as describing Lil Silva’s sound as 'grime in disguise.'

His debut 12”, with the echoed bongo hits of 'Seasons' and 'Funky Flex' on the flip defined the early moments of UK Funky. The next white label blended proto-grime tune ‘Pulse X’ with his own ‘Funky Flex’, recreating it as a founding tune of UK Funky.
The productions crossed genres with support from Joy Orbison, Hyperdub’s Kode9, L-Vis 1990 & Bok Bok and Berlin’s Modeselektor. In 2010 Lil Silva released the ‘Night Skankers’ EP on Night Slugs, and most recently has been providing remixes for the likes of SBTRKT, Tyler The Creator & Lana Del Ray.

Despite apparently appearing from nowhere, 23 year old producer and DJ South London Ordnance has quickly gathered support from a wealth of established industry figures including Mary Anne Hobbes, Mosca, Dark Sky, Hackman and more - whilst remaining a firm favorite amongst the underground crowd.

His tough, percussive tracks reference the contemporary Swamp 81 / Hemlock sound, but maintain a certain musicality often found lacking amongst the new breed of producers pushing the crossover UK techno sound.

Recent projects include a mixtape for LuckyMe, while his guest recording for Mary Anne Hobbs' XFM show drops on the 24th Feb. With four or so releases lined up this year, including a debut EP on Dutch imprint Audio Culture - not to mention a guest slot on Rinse with Seb Chew and shows up and down the country, 2012 could well be this young artists' year.
